If you thought WorldWCR has produced some incredible racing scenes this season, you haven’t seen anything yet! With the very first FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Champion set to be crowned this weekend, it’s a weekend you can’t miss.
Circuito de Jerez will host the season finale for all championships inside the World Superbike paddock this weekend; 18 - 20 October 2024.
PREVIOUS ROUND RECAP [ROUND 5 - CIRCUITO ESTORIL]
Australia’s Tayla Relph is going from strength to strength in the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship and for the first time this season, she showcased her potential at the front of the field.
In a weekend that presented nearly every type of weather, Relph showcased a strong showing in all conditions, never falling outside the Top 6 and topped every wet session by nearly 2 seconds.
Race 1 held on Saturday was a display of all the hard work that she and the TAYCO Motorsport team have put in as she led for her very first time in a World Championship. Race 2, she found herself slotted into 6th place off the start and had a good battle with Roberta Ponziani (the same rider whom she shared a podium with in Cremona).
Unfortunately, Estoril didn’t finish how Relph would have liked, crashing out of the race on Lap 5 while gaining on the leading group. Despite this, Relph’s hopes are still high as she claims Estoril has her strongest round to date.
“This weekend I think I proved that my podium at Cremona was not just because of luck, but was more a showcase of what is to come once I gained confidence,” Relph said.
“The first half of the year I lacked a lot of confidence, I mean, this is the first time I have raced full-time since 2018 and I am racing against people who have been in the MotoGP & WorldSBK paddock for several years.”
“At Estoril, I proved it wasn’t just luck, but I genuinely proved to everyone that I can get myself to the front of the field, I can stick with the leading group, and most importantly, I showed everyone that I am coming!”
“I think our biggest jump this weekend in the races was because of a much stronger Superpole result. We haven’t qualified on the second row of the grid since Donington Park, and this weekend it showed how crucial it is to qualify on those first two rows,”
“We will take what we learnt in Estoril and bring this with us to the final round at Jerez this weekend!” she ended.
EYES FORWARD TO THE FINAL ROUND AT JEREZ
And just like that, the final race weekend is upon us for WorldWCR at Circuit de Jerez this weekend, from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th October.
Relph has put in a lot of preparation leading up to this round, knowing this will probably be one of the hardest on the calendar.
“The Jerez circuit is any European’s backyard, they have done a lot of laps around here and we know they will be fast straight away, but, that doesn’t mean I can’t go with them right from Free Practice,” she said.
“We have completed multiple days of testing here, as we knew this circuit was going to be the one we had to do a lot of laps on before we raced here. Not just because it is the home track for so many girls in WorldWCR, but everyone wants to finish out the year as strong as possible.”
