A history-making moment beckons for female road racers worldwide and starts at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy this weekend.
It has been a long and anticipated lead-up to this historic moment in motorsport, and the inaugural FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship [WorldWCR] fires up this weekend in Italy, alongside the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship calendar.
This Saturday, 26 females from 18 different countries will line up on the grid to form the largest female representation on the World stage in road racing discipline history.
The grid is completed with 24 full-time riders, one wildcard entrant and a one-event entrant.
27-year-old Tayla Relph will be the sole Australian rider on the grid, and after a strong start in pre-season testing, is hoping to hit the ground running this weekend.
I am so eager to get the season underway, it has been a long time coming since we first found out about our selection in the World Championship, and it has been a very long road to get here today!” Tayla said.
”We recently completed testing at Misano World Circuit and it is like nothing I have ridden before, and so different to any circuit in Australia. The test was successful for us, so we can go into our Free Practice 1 session on Friday with confidence ahead of Qualifying later in the afternoon that day.”
The support back home from Australia has not gone unnoticed in this lead-up, which Relph says eases the nerves ahead of the World Championship opener.

“It has been amazing to wake up each morning and check out social media and see all the new followers, likes & comments of support across all of my channels - since the news first broke, my little support community has grown by over 4,000 followers across all of my channels, so it’s great to see so many people getting on board each day.” ”I see and read everyone’s comments, and I am just so excited to line up on that grid this weekend and get the first race underway. I know the championship is very European rider-heavy, filled with riders who have done many laps around Misano, but I am not letting this deter me. I have a solid fire to fight inside me and I am ready to give it my all.” Tayla said.
